Social Media Bio Generator

Build social media bios with character limits for each platform, emoji suggestions, and link formatting.

What Social Media Bio Generator does, with a checked example

You fill in who you are and what you do, and the tool drafts a bio for each major platform, counting every character - spaces, emojis, and your link included - against that platform's own limit. Over-limit drafts get flagged or trimmed before you paste them, and emoji suggestions plus link formatting are part of the same pass. The thing that catches people out: the limits sit far apart. A bio that fits Instagram's 150 and X's 160 characters is already too long for TikTok's 80 or Facebook's 101, and pasting an over-limit draft just makes the platform truncate it mid-sentence, no warning.

Worked example

A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.

Input

Marketing consultant for small businesses. I turn spreadsheets into strategy, and strategy into sales. Book a free audit: linktr.ee/janedoe

Expected output

Count: 139 characters, link included. Fits: Instagram (150 limit, 11 spare), X (160 limit, 21 spare). Over limit: TikTok (80), Facebook (101) - flagged for trimming.

The draft counts to 139 characters - 42 for the first sentence, 60 for the second, 37 for the third including the 17-character link - so it clears Instagram (150) and X (160) but overruns TikTok (80) and Facebook (101). Those two get flagged for trimming instead of truncating on paste.

How the result is produced

1

Character audit per platform

Every platform enforces a different ceiling: 160 for X, 150 for Instagram, 80 for TikTok, 101 for Facebook's About field, 2,600 for LinkedIn. The tool counts the draft as written - spaces, punctuation, emojis, and the URL all included - compares it with each ceiling, and reports per network whether the draft fits, by how much, or how many characters over it runs.

2

Emoji and link budget

Suggested emojis are inserted into the draft and counted like any other character, so a bio that fits plain can tip over once decorated. The link is formatted for clean display in a profile, and it consumes budget too: a short address such as linktr.ee/janedoe alone costs 17 characters before any text is counted.

Good uses

  • You are launching a new brand or personal account and want one bio drafted, then adjusted to each network's different limit instead of writing five versions from scratch.
  • A bio you pasted keeps getting cut off on the platform; you need a version that fits with room to spare, trimmed without losing the point.
  • You run several profiles - personal, business, and a side project - and want them to read consistently, with the same formatted link in every bio.

Limits and checks

  • Limits are point-in-time values. Platforms revise bio limits, and a tool's table can lag the change, so the platform's own editor remains the final authority. The count runs entirely in the browser; nothing is uploaded.
  • Not every emoji counts as one character. Skin-tone, family, and flag sequences contain multiple code points and can count as two or more characters while rendering as a single glyph, so a decorated draft may show as over the limit on the platform's counter.
  • Fitting the limit is not the same as a strong bio. The tool checks length and formatting, not persuasion; an automatic trim can drop your differentiator, and any edit you make after generation invalidates the count. Read the trimmed draft before publishing.

Common questions

Why does my bio fit in the tool but the platform still says it is too long?

Usually one of three things: the platform changed its limit after the tool's data was last updated, an emoji composed of multiple code points counts as two characters on the platform's counter, or you edited the draft after the count ran. Paste the exact final text into the platform's own editor and let its counter decide.

Does the link count toward the character limit?

Yes. The URL occupies part of the budget on every platform - a linktr.ee address alone runs 15-20 characters - and the tool counts it like any other text. If the count is tight, shorten the address first, or move the link to a pinned post or a dedicated link-in-bio field where the platform offers one.
