Grid and border geometry

The grid-size control determines the spacing between neighboring grid lines. Reducing that setting creates more, smaller squares within the available area; increasing it creates fewer, larger squares. Margin settings reserve an ungridded border around the sheet. Because the margins consume page space, larger margins reduce the number of complete squares that can fit across and down the printable grid.

Stroke appearance and printing

Line weight changes the thickness of the grid strokes without changing the intended distance between their positions. Color changes the grid's visual contrast against the paper. When printing, use 100 percent or Actual Size if physical spacing matters. Options such as Fit to Page can alter the grid dimensions, while printer resolution and ink behavior can make very thin or pale lines less distinct.

  • Inspect a test print when using a light color or small line weight. A line that is visible on screen may print faintly, unevenly, or not at all.
  • Check the printer's unprintable edge area. A margin accepted by the graph-paper layout may still be too narrow for a particular printer and paper-loading method.

Common questions

Does increasing line weight make the graph-paper squares smaller?

No. Grid size and line weight describe different properties. Grid size controls the intended spacing between adjacent lines, while line weight controls how thick those lines look. A heavier stroke occupies more visible area around each line, so the open white portion of a square may look smaller even though the grid-line spacing has not changed.

Will the printed squares have the exact physical size I selected?

Not automatically. The graph-paper layout defines the intended grid, but browser print scaling and printer behavior can change its physical dimensions. Print at 100 percent or Actual Size, avoid Fit to Page, and measure a test square with a ruler before using the sheet for scale drawings, templates, or other measurement-sensitive work.
