Place the furniture

Add the relevant furniture pieces to the room grid and drag each one into its proposed position. The arrangement shows spatial relationships such as which wall a piece occupies, what sits opposite it, and where open floor remains. Unless the interface displays an explicit scale and dimensions, treat grid positions as a comparative sketch rather than exact measurements.

Compare arrangements

Move the same set of furniture through several layouts instead of evaluating only the first arrangement. Compare access to entrances, routes between major pieces, and usable space around beds or seating. If the grid provides a stated scale, convert every room and furniture measurement consistently. If it does not, avoid assigning a precise real-world distance to a grid square.

Good uses

  • Testing whether a bed, dresser, and desk can share a bedroom while leaving a practical route from the entrance to the bed and storage.
  • Comparing sofa, chair, coffee-table, and television positions before moving into a living room or rearranging its existing furniture.
  • Sketching how furniture could sit around known room constraints, such as doorways, windows, radiators, floor vents, or built-in cabinets, before lifting anything.

Limits and checks

  • Measure the room and every furniture item independently. A plausible-looking grid arrangement can still fail because of inaccurate dimensions, wall projections, baseboards, or measurement conventions.
  • Check the complete delivery route separately, including building entrances, elevators, stairs, turns, and interior doorways. A piece can fit in its destination while being impossible to carry there.
  • Allow operating space for hinged doors, drawers, cabinet doors, desk chairs, and reclining furniture. Unless those movements are explicitly represented, an unobstructed static footprint does not establish usable clearance.

Common questions

Can the planner tell me whether my furniture will definitely fit?

No. The room grid can help evaluate a proposed arrangement, but certainty requires accurate measurements of the room, furniture, fixed obstacles, and access route. Confirm the narrowest doorway and any difficult turns as well as the destination. Soft furniture may compress slightly, while rigid frames and attached legs may not.

Can I use the layout to verify accessibility compliance?

No. It can help explore wider routes and less obstructed arrangements, but a visual plan is not a compliance determination. Applicable requirements depend on the building, jurisdiction, and use of the space, and they require accurate measurements.
