What Caffeine Intake Tracker does and how it behaves

Caffeine Intake Tracker turns a day's coffee, tea, soda, and energy-drink entries into a running caffeine total and a time-based half-life view. It answers two different questions: how much caffeine was consumed, and how much of that recorded amount may still be present later. The frequent surprise is that the second figure is not the same as the day's total and does not fall to zero when the last drink is finished. It is a modeled remainder, not a measurement of caffeine in the body.

Drink entries and timing

Each coffee, tea, soda, or energy-drink entry contributes a caffeine amount to the day's total. The consumption time anchors that dose on the half-life view. Equal daily totals therefore need not produce equal curves: a later drink leaves more of its modeled caffeine remaining at the same clock time than an earlier drink.

Reading the half-life view

The visualization applies the meaning of a half-life to recorded caffeine: after one half-life, half of a dose remains in the model; after two half-lives, one quarter remains. Drinks consumed at different times begin declining from their respective consumption times, so the view represents overlapping doses rather than treating the entire daily total as one simultaneous intake.

  • Reviewing how much modeled caffeine from an afternoon coffee remains near a planned bedtime.
  • Reconciling caffeine across morning tea, lunch soda, and an evening energy drink instead of considering each beverage separately.
  • Comparing daily logs with similar total caffeine but different drink times to understand why their later modeled remainders differ.

Limits and checks

  • Coffee and tea are not fixed caffeine doses. Bean or leaf type, preparation, serving size, and brand can make the actual amount differ from a preset or product label.
  • A half-life is not a personal countdown. Individual caffeine clearance varies, so the curve is an estimate rather than a prediction of an exact blood level or sleep effect.
  • Do not confuse caffeine consumed during the day with caffeine modeled as remaining at a particular time. They answer different questions and should not be compared as interchangeable totals.

Common questions

Does the remaining-caffeine curve tell me when caffeine is completely out of my system?

No. The curve is a mathematical estimate based on the half-life represented by the tracker. A person's caffeine clearance can differ, and the display cannot measure blood caffeine, predict an exact sleep response, or establish that no caffeine remains. Use it to compare timing patterns, not as a biological test.

Can this tracker determine whether my daily caffeine intake is safe?

No. It can total the caffeine recorded for the day, which is useful when comparing a log with health guidance. It cannot decide that an amount is safe for a particular person. Product strength, serving size, medications, pregnancy, health conditions, and individual sensitivity can change the practical meaning of the same milligram total.
