What Affiliate Commission Calculator does, with a checked example

This calculator turns a payout structure into a dollar forecast: pick percentage, flat fee, tiered, or recurring commissions, then enter the conversion volume, order value, or subscriber count that structure needs. It multiplies those inputs into a per-conversion and monthly total. Which price you should enter for order value depends on your program's terms: some programs pay commission on the gross sale price, others on the net price after discounts, taxes, or returns, so check your program's payout basis before you plug in a number.

Worked example

A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.

Input

Percentage mode: average order value $75, commission rate 12%, 40 sales this month

Expected output

$360.00 commission for the month

40 sales x $75 average order value x 12% = $360.00; the tool multiplies conversions by order value by rate for percentage-mode calculations.

How the result is produced

1

Structure-specific math

Each mode uses a different formula: percentage multiplies conversions x average order value x rate; flat fee multiplies conversions x a fixed per-sale payout and ignores order value; tiered applies a different rate once volume crosses each breakpoint you define; recurring calculates commission from your active referred subscriber count using the rate you configure, repeated each billing cycle.

2

Monthly total from period inputs

The per-conversion or per-subscriber commission is multiplied by the volume you enter to produce a monthly total. The calculator works from the single period of inputs you provide; it does not automatically track subscriber counts or sales volume from one month to the next, so if those numbers change you re-enter the updated figures yourself.

Good uses

  • Comparing a flat-fee affiliate offer against a percentage offer before deciding which program to join
  • Projecting recurring SaaS affiliate income from your current referred-subscriber count and per-cycle rate
  • Checking how many more sales are needed this month to cross into a higher tiered commission rate

Limits and checks

  • Recurring forecasts do not model churn automatically; if referred subscribers cancel, you have to reduce the count manually or the projection overstates future payouts
  • Tiered results depend on whether the higher rate applies only to sales above the threshold or retroactively to the whole volume; confirm which convention the tool uses before comparing it to your program's actual terms
  • All outputs are gross commission figures only: the calculator does not model the network's processing fees, refunds, chargebacks, or tax withholding, and it doesn't address separate compliance obligations like FTC affiliate-disclosure requirements either; confirm both your program's payout deductions and your disclosure obligations independently (see reference)

Common questions

Does it account for cookie duration or attribution windows?

No. The calculator only does the commission arithmetic once you supply a conversion count; it has no model of click tracking, cookie length, or last-click versus first-click attribution, so it can't tell you how many of your visits will actually convert within your program's window.

Can I model a hybrid plan that pays a flat fee plus a percentage?

Only by running the flat-fee and percentage modes separately and adding the two totals yourself; the tool does not have a combined hybrid mode, so a single result field won't reflect both payout types at once.
