What Image Gradient Creator does and how it behaves

Image Gradient Creator turns chosen colors into a raster color field and lets you select linear, radial, or conic geometry before downloading a PNG. Linear is suited to change across an axis, radial to change outward from a center, and conic to change around a center. The important surprise is in the downloaded format: the PNG is a flattened image, so its geometry and color controls do not remain editable as gradient settings.

Geometry changes color placement

Choose one of the three geometries and supply colors for the ramp. A linear gradient assigns the transition along a straight axis; a radial gradient assigns it by distance from a center; a conic gradient assigns it by angle around a center. Reusing identical colors with another geometry changes the spatial relationship among those colors, not merely the label on the image.

The download is a raster snapshot

The current gradient can be downloaded as a PNG. That file has a finite pixel grid: it preserves the rendered color field, but not the creator's gradient mode or editable color controls. If the PNG is later stretched past its own dimensions, resampling can soften the transition and make subtle color steps easier to notice.

Good uses

  • Create a fixed raster background for a slide, email header, streaming overlay, or application screen when the destination expects an image file rather than a live gradient definition.
  • Make a radial glow, halo, spotlight, or vignette-like color field for compositing behind text, a logo, or a product cutout.
  • Produce a conic color wheel or angular sweep for a chart backdrop, loading-ring concept, color-study sheet, or circular decorative element.

Limits and checks

  • A downloaded PNG has a fixed pixel grid. Scaling it does not create a new resolution-independent gradient. Judge smoothness and edge quality from the file at its intended display size, not solely from a zoomed or reduced preview.
  • In a conic gradient, the angular cycle closes where its end meets its beginning. If the boundary colors differ strongly, that join may resemble a hard ray. This is a property of the color sequence and wrap point, not necessarily a damaged image.
  • Do not treat a color sampled from a scaled preview as definitive. Scaling can blend adjacent PNG pixels, while display color handling can alter their appearance. For an exact check, inspect the downloaded image at 100 percent and sample an original pixel.

Common questions

Can I edit the gradient settings after downloading the PNG?

No. A PNG contains the rendered pixels, not the linear, radial, or conic controls that produced them. An image editor can alter those pixels, but it will not recover the original gradient settings. Keep a record of the chosen colors and geometry if you expect to create revised versions.

Why does my conic gradient show a line extending from the center?

That line is the wrap boundary where the angular gradient completes a turn. It becomes conspicuous when the colors on the two sides are far apart. It is not necessarily an export defect. Use a color sequence whose end reconnects smoothly to its beginning when you want a continuous wheel.
