What T-Shirt Mockup Generator does, with a checked example

You give it an image - a logo, a wordmark, a full design - and it shows that image as a print on a t-shirt. Two controls do the work: a color control that recolors the garment, and a position control that moves the artwork on the front. The result is a preview you can judge color and placement from before committing to a printer. The thing most users get wrong: artwork with a solid background renders as an opaque rectangle, so what looks like a clean print is actually the image's own background showing. Bring a transparent PNG and the garment shows through the design.

Expected output

The mockup shows the logo as a print on the front of the shirt, with the garment in the selected shirt color. The position control moves the print on the shirt, and changing the color control updates the garment while the artwork keeps its own colors.

The tool layers the uploaded artwork over the garment graphic and applies the shirt color to the shirt itself, so the preview always shows the exact combination of design, shirt color, and placement the controls produce.

How the result is produced

Composite and position

Your uploaded image becomes the print. The tool places it on the shirt, and the position control shifts the artwork so you can settle where the design sits. Because the artwork is layered over the garment, opaque parts of the image cover the shirt color beneath them, while transparent areas let the shirt show through.

Shirt color

A color control sets the shirt's color and the preview updates so you see the design against the new garment. Contrast and legibility are decided here: a dark logo that reads well on a light shirt can disappear on a dark one. The control applies to the shirt, not to the uploaded artwork.

Good uses

  • Choosing between shirt colors for a merch run by previewing the same logo against several garment colors in a row.
  • Checking legibility before ordering: dark logos on dark shirts and light artwork on light shirts are where a design that looked fine on screen stops reading.
  • Deciding where on the front the print sits - higher, lower, off-center - before handing the artwork to a printer.

Limits and checks

  • The preview is a stylized mockup, not a photograph: it does not simulate fabric weave, ink sheen, or how the print feels in hand. Real garments from the same artwork will look and feel different.
  • An image with an opaque background, such as a JPG or a PNG without transparency, renders as a solid rectangle of that background rather than a cut-out print. Inspect the preview for the image's own background color, not just the design.
  • Screen colors are not garment colors. The shirt color in the preview approximates a dye lot, and contrast that passes on a monitor can fail on actual fabric under store lighting.

Common questions

Do I need a transparent background for my artwork?

For a clean result, yes. With a JPG or an opaque PNG, the image's own background appears around the design, like a sticker on the shirt. A PNG with transparency lets the garment color show through the artwork, which is what makes the preview look like a real print.

Will the printed shirt look exactly like the preview?

No. The mockup shows color and placement, not the outcome of a specific print process. Ink colors, fabric tint, and print method such as screen printing, DTG, or heat transfer all shift the result. Treat the preview as a placement and color decision aid, not a final proof.
