What Subscription Cost Tracker does, with a checked example
Every recurring charge you forget to cancel is a bill you keep paying, and most people misjudge how much those charges add up. This tool keeps a running list of your subscriptions - name, price, billing period, next renewal date - and turns it into a monthly total, an annual cost projection, and the list of upcoming renewals. To use the savings calculator, select the subscriptions you are considering dropping and the totals recompute, showing exactly what each cancellation saves per year. The surprise is usually the annual number: a handful of $10-per-month services quietly becomes four figures.
Worked example
A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.
Input
Add four subscriptions: Netflix $15.49/month, renews 2026-08-24; Spotify $11.99/month, renews 2026-08-28; iCloud+ $2.99/month, renews 2026-09-02; Microsoft 365 Family $99.99/year, renews 2027-01-15.
->
Expected output
Monthly total: $30.47 from the three monthly plans, $38.80 including the annual plan as an $8.33/month equivalent (rounded). Annual projection: $465.63. Upcoming renewals: 2026-08-24 Netflix $15.49, 2026-08-28 Spotify $11.99, 2026-09-02 iCloud+ $2.99, then 2027-01-15 Microsoft 365 $99.99. With Spotify marked for cancellation, savings are $143.88 per year and the projection falls to $321.75.
The annual projection is the exact sum of the charges: 12 x $15.49 + 12 x $11.99 + 12 x $2.99 + $99.99 = $465.63, and cancelling Spotify removes 12 x $11.99 = $143.88, leaving $321.75. The $38.80 monthly view is the rounded equivalent of the same charges (30.47 + 8.33), which is why $38.80 x 12 gives $465.60, three cents lower - the monthly figure is a convenience view, not the bill total.
