What Receipt Maker does, with a checked example
A receipt is a record of money already received, not a request for it. This tool collects your business name and address, the customer's purchases as line items, a tax rate, and the payment method, then assembles them into a formatted, printable receipt. The mistake most users make is using it as an invoice: an invoice asks a customer to pay, while a receipt confirms that payment happened. If money has not changed hands yet, you need an invoice instead. If it has, this gives the customer a clean record of exactly what they paid for.
Worked example
A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.
Input
Business name: Maple & Main Studio
Business address: 210 Birch Street
Line items: Logo design, 2 at $150.00; Business card design, 1 at $75.00
Sales tax rate: 8.875%
Payment method: Credit card
->
Expected output
Subtotal: $375.00 (2 x $150.00 = $300.00 for logo design, 1 x $75.00 = $75.00 for business card design)
Sales tax at 8.875%: $33.28
Total: $408.28
Payment method: Credit card
Receipt prints with the business details at the top and the line-item breakdown above the total.
Each line multiplies quantity by unit price, and the lines sum to the subtotal: 300.00 + 75.00 = 375.00. Tax is the subtotal times the entered rate, rounded to the nearest cent: 375.00 x 0.08875 = 33.28125, so $33.28. The total is 375.00 + 33.28 = 408.28.
