What Proposal Cost Builder does, with a checked example
The numbers in a proposal are easy; the structure is the work. This tool takes the phases, costs, deliverables, durations, and payment terms you enter and assembles them into one document: line items grouped per phase, a timeline, payment milestones, and a terms section. The common mistake is entering dollar amounts and stopping, because clients dispute scope, not arithmetic. The tool organizes and sums what you provide; it does not price the work for you, and its output is only as complete as the deliverables and terms you actually write down.
Worked example
A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.
Input
Phases: Discovery $2,500 / 2 weeks; Design $7,500 / 3 weeks; Build $15,000 / 6 weeks. Payments: 30% at signing, 40% at design approval, 30% at delivery.
->
Expected output
Proposal total: $25,000 across 3 phases over 11 weeks. Phase subtotals: Discovery $2,500, Design $7,500, Build $15,000. Payment milestones: $7,500 at signing, $10,000 at design approval, $7,500 at delivery; milestones sum to $25,000.
The total is the sum of the phases (2,500 + 7,500 + 15,000 = 25,000), and 30/40/30 percent of 25,000 is 7,500/10,000/7,500, which sums back to the same figure, so the payment schedule and the quoted total reconcile.
