What Podcast Sponsorship Calculator does, with a checked example
Podcast ad pricing runs on one multiplier: for every thousand downloads, the advertiser pays a set rate (the CPM), and that per-spot price is then multiplied across the ad spots you sell per episode. This calculator walks that chain forward: downloads and CPM produce a per-spot rate, then spots per episode and episodes per month turn that rate into episode and monthly revenue. The part people most often misread is the CPM itself. It is a market benchmark you negotiate from, not a universal price, and mid-roll spots routinely command higher CPMs than pre-rolls.
Worked example
A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.
Input
Downloads per episode: 5,000 | CPM: $25 | Ad spots per episode: 2 | Episodes per month: 4
->
Expected output
Per-spot rate: $125. Per-episode revenue: $250. Monthly revenue: $1,000.
5,000 downloads divided by 1,000 gives 5 CPM units, and 5 x $25 = $125 per spot. Two spots double the episode total to $250, and four episodes a month brings it to $1,000.
