What Image Rounded Corner Tool does and how it behaves

Sharp rectangular edges are the specific problem this tool addresses. Choose an image, set the corner radius, and optionally add a shadow to create a softer outer silhouette. The radius controls curvature at all four corners; it is not a general crop, resize, or blur control. The common surprise is that the same numeric radius does not look equally rounded on every image. Its visual strength depends on the image's width, height, and aspect ratio, while a shadow can make the boundary look heavier than it is. Judge the radius against the actual output size and intended background.

Corner radius

The radius setting controls how far the corner transition extends along the image's top and bottom and left and right edges. At zero, the outline remains rectangular. Increasing it replaces more of each corner with a curved boundary while leaving the central area unchanged. An identical setting can look subtle on a large image and pronounced on a small one.

Optional shadow

Enabling the shadow adds a separate soft edge around the rounded silhouette, so it changes depth and contrast rather than the corner geometry itself. A dark or broad shadow can make the image boundary appear heavier, especially against a light page. Turn the effect off for a flat asset or when the destination layout will provide its own shadow.

  • Preparing profile photos or team headshots that need matching soft corners before placement in a directory or card grid.
  • Making product screenshots resemble floating interface cards by combining a controlled corner radius with the optional shadow.
  • Comparing corner radii on a logo tile, poster thumbnail, or cover image before choosing a reusable visual treatment.

Limits and checks

  • Rounding can conceal important pixels near each corner. Faces, labels, badges, or watermarks close to the rectangular boundary may be partially removed from the visible silhouette, especially with a large radius. Inspect all four corners rather than assuming a centered subject makes the treatment safe.
  • A radius value is not a portable visual guarantee. Applying the same number to a square icon and a wide banner produces different proportions, so compare each result at its final display size. Downscaling can also make small differences between nearby radius settings difficult to see.
  • The shadow changes apparent footprint and contrast. It may look balanced against the preview background but too dark, too faint, or visually cramped when placed elsewhere. Check the rounded image on the actual light, dark, or patterned background where it will be used.

Common questions

Does the radius remove part of my picture?

Yes, it can hide content in the four corner regions because those areas fall outside the rounded silhouette. It does not selectively protect a face, caption, watermark, or other subject near an edge. Use a smaller radius or add safe spacing around important content before applying the effect. The middle of the image remains visible.

Are rounded corners guaranteed to be transparent?

Not necessarily. Rounded geometry and transparent corner pixels are different concerns. If a result is flattened onto a background, the outside corner areas retain that background color and will not blend into another one. When variable backgrounds matter, inspect the actual result over both light and dark test surfaces and confirm that the corner areas remain transparent.
