What Simple Image Paint Tool does and how it behaves

Simple Image Paint Tool provides a raster Canvas for quick drawing and correction. Use the pencil or brush for freehand marks, the eraser to remove portions, the fill tool to color a connected region, and the shape tools when a hand-drawn outline would be unnecessarily rough. It is intended for direct painting, not document layout or vector construction. The common surprise is that a shape on the canvas should be treated as painted image content, not as a separately selectable vector object with reusable geometry.

How the result is produced

1

Freehand marks and erasing

Select the pencil or brush, then move the pointer across the canvas to lay down a freehand stroke. The pencil is suited to controlled line work, while the brush is the painting-oriented choice. Switch to the eraser and trace over unwanted portions. All three tools act along the path you draw, so pointer movement determines the mark.

2

Connected fills and shapes

The fill tool starts from the point you choose and colors the connected area around that point, making it useful for closed regions. Shape tools create regular geometric marks from pointer placement rather than requiring freehand tracing. A practical sequence is to draw boundaries first, fill their interiors second, and use the eraser for local cleanup.

Good uses

  • Blocking out a small raster icon or symbol with geometric shapes, then adding details with the pencil.
  • Creating a color-blocked concept sketch by outlining regions and filling each closed area separately.
  • Correcting stray marks in a hand-drawn diagram with the eraser before redrawing the affected lines.

Limits and checks

  • Canvas marks are raster content. Enlarging a finished drawing can make pixel edges more apparent, and a clean shape outline does not become resolution-independent vector geometry.
  • Fill follows connected pixels from the chosen point. Small gaps in an outline can join regions that look separate at a glance, so inspect the boundary before filling.
  • Freehand lines are controlled by pointer motion rather than typed coordinates. They suit sketches and touchups, but their position or length should not be interpreted as a precise measurement.

Common questions

Can I move or resize a shape after drawing it?

Not in the way a vector editor edits objects. A completed canvas shape is best understood as part of the painted image, so do not rely on editable control points or reusable shape parameters. Use the eraser and redraw when local correction is sufficient. Choose a vector drawing tool when later geometric editing is essential.

Will the fill tool always stay inside my outline?

Only when the pixels around the target form a closed barrier for the fill operation. A tiny opening can connect the interior to the surrounding area, and edge colors can affect which pixels belong to the region. Close visible gaps before filling and inspect the full boundary afterward. For intentionally open artwork, paint the area manually instead.
