What Image Blur & Censor Tool does and how it behaves

Load a screenshot or photo and this tool lets you hide parts of it before you share the file: you mark the regions you want covered, choose one of three effects - a blur, a pixelated mosaic, or a solid black bar - and export the edited image. Everything happens in the browser window, and the image never leaves your device. The thing users most often get wrong is strength: a light blur or a small mosaic leaves short text partly legible, and some pixel patterns can be estimated back. The black bar is the only effect that guarantees nothing readable survives.

How the result is produced

1

Marking and masking

You load an image and draw a mask - a rectangle or a freehand stroke - over each region you want hidden. The mask defines the boundary precisely: every pixel inside it is replaced, and every pixel outside it is left exactly as it was. Regions can be resized and adjusted before export, and only the masked pixels are ever affected.

2

Three effects, one export

Blur softens the region by blending each pixel with its neighbors, so text smears into an unreadable smudge. Pixelate redraws the region as coarse square blocks, the classic mosaic. The black bar fills the region with solid color, removing the pixels entirely. Export writes a new image with the chosen effect baked into the pixels, and the source file is never overwritten.

Good uses

  • Preparing a screenshot for a bug report or support ticket when it shows a personal email address, phone number, or login token.
  • Blurring faces, license plates, or bystanders in a photo before posting it publicly or sending it in a group chat.
  • Redacting names and amounts in a receipt or document photo before sharing it with a colleague or an online service.

Limits and checks

  • Weak settings are not censorship: a small blur radius or tiny mosaic blocks can leave short text legible, and enlarging a heavily pixelated region can recover rough shapes. If the content must be unreadable, use the black bar.
  • The mask is the boundary of protection. Text that extends past the masked edge stays fully visible, and anything you did not mark is exported unchanged. Draw the mask generously larger than the text it covers.
  • The tool edits a copy; it does not touch the original. The unredacted file still exists on disk and in any chat, email, or cloud copy you already sent, and deleting the blurred export does not remove those.

Common questions

Does this tool upload my image to a server?

No. The image is processed in your browser and never leaves your device; there is no upload step, and the page works offline once it has loaded. That is the main reason to prefer a local tool over an online editor. Remember that any messenger or cloud app you use to share the result will upload its own copy.

Can the blur be undone?

No exact restoration is possible - the original pixels are gone from the exported file. But a weak blur can leave text partly readable, and recovering information from heavily pixelated faces is an active research area. For anything that must stay secret, the black bar leaves nothing to recover.
