What Cost Per Hire Calculator does, with a checked example
Cost Per Hire Calculator converts a batch of hiring expenses into an average cost for each completed hire. Supply the hire count and amounts spent on recruiting, advertising, interviewing, onboarding, and training. The calculator adds those expenses and divides the total by the number hired. The result is a historical average, not a prediction of what the next candidate will cost. The most common error is mixing scopes, such as entering quarterly advertising expenses but only one month's hires.
Worked example
A concrete input and expected output from the current implementation.
Input
Number of hires: 4
Recruiting: $2,000
Advertising: $600
Interviewing: $800
Onboarding: $400
Training: $1,200
->
Expected output
Cost per hire: $1,250
The five expense entries total $5,000: $2,000 + $600 + $800 + $400 + $1,200. Dividing $5,000 by 4 completed hires gives $1,250 per hire.
